Thanks for the invitation, happy to join your forum. First, congratulations on winning the double, obviously you must be the best club in Romania. We like to think of ourselves as the best in Slovakia. Nothing wrong with that! :D
I have a question. :?: Is there a low cost regularly scheduled airline connecting Bucarest with some central European city? I am already aware of Volareweb. Thanks

You are the first one to join us so congrats.
I am in USA so I can't help you with the airline question.
However, back to the soccer, what are the best playes in your team?

The Yellow Green Fanatics are the supporters of Zilina.
Their Website is:
http://ygf.szm.sk/ - Has the menu in English which makes it easy to navigate. The rest of information is in Slovak language. However, they have some interesting pictures of their games and also of sites to visit in their city. Though it seems that website has not been updated lately still contains interesting information.
For the Red Dogs that are planning on visiting Slovakia for the game, it will be a good idea to make friends with the locals. Perhaps a dialogue based on respect and fair-play coud be a start.
And for those that have not already been there the official website of Zilina is
http://www.mskzilina.sk/.
We ask our supporters to pay respect to our Slovak counterparts.

Hello HAITA, well I happen to be in US as well, (NY area). I will be vacationing in Europe at the time of the 2 matches, so I thought it would great to hop to Bucarest.
There are couple players that also play for the national team namely defender Branislav Labant, midfielder Dusan Sninsky. Another defender Radoslav Zabavnik has just signed with CSKA Sofia. Fans are happy that transfer of Miroslav Barcik (midfield/forward) to Bruggy of Belgium did not materialized. Then there is young and promising Stanislav Sestak. But I am not going to tell you more secrets!

Big difference for the team, however, were the coaches. Over the last 2 years MSK changed so many coaches that national federation has ruled now to limit changes to 2 per season. Last year it was coach Lesicky who in the finish brought the team from 11 point deficit to the title. This year it was Jurkemik who took over in April from totally inexperienced coach Simurka. The title was in the balance between MSK and Dukla Banska Bystrica until the last minute of the last round.
Well, maybe you can also write about Dinamo and your star players.

Paul,
Thank you for your answers and regarding your team.
We are just trying to present your team on our site for our supporters, so we are trying to gather information about your team. We are not affiliated with Dinamo Football Club. Their official site is
http://www.fcdinamo.ro which has an English version as well.
If you know anyone from your green yellow supporters back in Slovakia that will be helpful for our fans that will like to travel to your country. On exchange we can point out sites to visit in Romania and Bucharest and probably have some our Bucharest fans meet with you guys to celebrate our two team encounters with some beer. Next by Dinamo stadium there is a pub of the Red Dogs.
Now back to your question regarding Dinamo. Dinamo was born in 1948 out of forced merger by the communist regime of two traditional Bucharest team. Dinamo is one of most dominant clubs in Romania: won 17 times the Romanian Championship and 11 times the Romanian Cup. This year we won both the Romanian Championship and Cup. Though we have not yet won an European Cup we have a good tradition in our international encounters. We first participated in the Champions League in 1956 when we eliminated Galatasaray. Since then, we reach one the Champions Cup semifinal in 1984 when we eliminate Hamburg after a 3-0 at Bucharest (the trofee winner from the previous year) and we we were stopped by the famous Liverpool of Ian Rush. We also, reached the UEFA Cup Holders semifinal in 1990 when we took out Partizan Belgrade, Panatinaikos (6-1 in Bucharest) and we were stopped by Anderlecht. Since 1990, after the communism fall, many of our good players our transferred in stronger league in Europe. Let me give you some examples from the players that are still making part the Romanian National Team, and playing in other leagues : Cosmin Contra played at Milan and now at Atletico Madrid, Adrian Mutu at Chelsea (I am sure you know him), Cernat at Dynamo Kyev, Mitea at Ajax, Stoican and Marica at Sahtor Donetz and Zicu at Parma. As you your team changes coaches every year we are transferring our best players abroad. Unfortunately, our national football federation has not come with limitation on that number. We believe if Dinamo could held for one year all our players we could probably make it to the groups of UEFA Champions League and even further. Since last year, we sold Mitea, Stoican, Marica, and Zicu. All those players are very good and very young. However, our team has still good potential as new talents are drafted. This year we believe that our best assets is our coach Ioan Andone, former player at Dinamo in both teams that in 1984 and 1990 when we reached the European semifinals mentioned above. Our team contains the best striker in the national league Ionel Danciulescu who also scored two goals in our national team recent game against
Germany when we won with 5-1. Florentin Petre midfield is another player that is playing in the national team. We were happy that for know both Danciulescu and Petre are staying at Dinamo as their transfers to Nantes and Gratz are on hold until Dinamo finishes is eliminated from the UEFA tournments this edition. We hope that will not happend until next late spring.
By the way, what system is your team playing : 4-4-2 our 3-5-2?
How about places to visit in Zilina, stay overnight, eat and drink?

Last season we had 3 coaches -> we saw many experiments... Zilina is playing 4-4-2 and 3-5-2 too.

HAITA, thanks for your informative post regarding Dinamo. No question, its accomplishments are impressive. You have to understand that Zilina is a provincial town, not a capital but football here has a tradition (since 1908) and relatively rich history. In the past it was Zilina that supplied big teams in former Czechoslovakia. Now a days players (mostly young) from different parts of Slovakia, including Bratislava, are happy to be drafted and to get a chance to play for the Slovak champion. They, in many instances fill the void of native Zilina players that find more lucrative conditions and chalenge abroad. Players like Leitner plays for a Czech first division team, similarly Vladimir Labant is playing for Sparta Prague (before Manchester United). His brother Branislav, as I mentioned before, is still on Zilina roster. The last star to leave his native Zilina is Marek Mintal who is currently playing for 1. FC Nurenberg, now again in first Bundesliga. As the leading scorer in 2. Bundesliga he was most instrumental for Nurenberg to regain the first division.
I suggest to post your request to Zilina supporters on their site www.mskzilina.sk or address it to another newcomer from Zilina to this forum, his nick is zaza. He has already answered some of the questions. I would only confirm that good food and drink is not a problem in Zilina at any price level, in fact a recent study found Zilina to have most pubs and restaurants per capita in Slovakia. As far as hotels are concerned, I would recommend Grand Hotel and Hotel Slovan if you travel by car. These hotels are less expensive and have their own parking lot. Parking in Zilina is otherwise quite expensive, its metered 24/7. Other good hotel choice is GMK Centrum and Garni Hotel.
Then there are more expensive Hotel Astoria and Hotel Slovakia. I would strongly recommend to make reservations directly with the hotel and not through an agency. The stadium, city center and some shopping areas are all within walking distance to each other. Here is another good Zilina website in English:
http://www.viator.sk/intro.html
after intro, click on the english icon.
Btw, are you planning to be in Zilina for the game?

Paul,
Many thanks for your post. To be honest we have had no many news regarding the Slavakian soccer since the break-up of the Czechoslovakia. We have fallowed more closely the Czech soccer through the accomplishments of Sparta and their national team. BTW, Romania is going to play the same group with Czech Rep for WC 2006. It should be interesting.
Unfortunately, I am not planning on watching live neither of the games. My vacations plans this year were made for the fall. I would love though sometime to visit Zilina. From what I saw online, it looks like a very nice city. I know that some of my friends from cucuriguboys that live in Romania, are planning on going to Zilina. If you planning on being there or coming to Bucharest, please let us know so you guys can meet.
Hey, did you know that Champions League is starting here on the East Coast. I am planning on going to see Milan- Chelsea( good opportunity to see live former Dinamo player Mutu) and perhaps one of the games Liverpool(my other fav. team other than Dinamo).

Haita, Happy 4th of July, I hope you are enjoying the long weekend.
Well, Dinamo had some nice wins in Switzerland indeed. Zilina is preparing for the next season as well. Yesterday they had a friendly game in Czech Republic and surprisingly they beat the Czech champion Banik Ostrava (without their national team players) 0:2. Still a nice result. Three players from Zilina on the other hand - Duan Sninsky, Peter Dolezaj and Peter Kiska are with Slovak national team on their way to Japan to attend Kirin Cup.
Yes, I heard about the Champions World Series here in the US. The line-up is awesome! Milano - Chelsea game will definitely be a treat to watch.
Is your location near Philadelphia?

Libertatea 13.07.2004

Late Happy 4th of July to you too. I was a little busy lately so I apologize for my late answer.
So are running short of time. Less than two weeks and we will see our two teams play. :) I believe we are going to have two very competitive games. From I gathered so far, you have a very good coach and your team has played together for awhile. What's the spirit among Zilina's supporters regarding the outcome of the games? On our side, I think the general feeling is ranging from super optimism to a cautious optimism.
So are you going to see the games?

First of all,i am a regular suporter of Dinamo.I go to every match and i am not always pleased with the people around me at the stadium.but i believe all teh romanian teams are having problems winth peasents, and by that i don't mean the actual non-capital people but the person that demonstrates by his actions that is not capable to understand much of the things around him...i don't like the ideea of internet groups but i thought i will find some inteligent ideas here...and i did.but i saw what was on the zilina forum, and i recognized the names from this forum, and i suddently realized that we're the gypsies they are talking about!not by the colour but by our attitude!i do belive it is so wonderful to invade a forum of other team fans!it is just so great!how important we must be!good job insulting them in romanian!bravo!don't you realize how malicious you are acting?we were suposed to be some suporters led by love not by hate!Did Hîldan die in vain!??!?!?you didn't learn anything?!!there were times i was ashame of the people around me,especially in the away games.but this...good job everybody!you've embaresed me and most certanlly you've embaresed Dinamo.continue to live in darknes and things will work out for you.
All i can do is to pay my respect to all zilina fans that were insulted. And i must say all the steaua fans on that forum are even worse than us.
this is my last mesage on this forum.if anybody wants to curse me you have my e-mail.
tonight is a big match in Stefan cel Mare.if i'll saw nothing changed since last season,i'll have to reconsider whether i can still go to the North stand or just follow my instinct and watch the matches from elsewhere.

Acum nu are sens sa ne aprindem paie in cap.

Hello Haita, Indeed, there is less than a week before the the match. I am sure the excitement is growing by each day. From the comments and news articles from Slovakia everybody more less regards Dinamo as the favorite to advance. But at the same time the fans believe that with some luck Zilina may prevail. But I think it will take more than luck. Three attackers are currently injured, (Gottwald and Nemec) and the third one (Bartos) who was just tranferred to fill the void got injured in the last game. So that is not a good start for Zilina. Gottwald has a broken collar bone and Nemec had to have a surgery on his knee. But fans are fans and they will believe in and support their respective team no matter what.
I'll be at the game in Zilina for sure, I dont know about Bucarest yet. I'll be in Zilina already this weekend so I will file a pre-game report about the atmosphere on location.

Well, less than 24 hours before the kick-off and the weather in Zilina is cold. Tomorrow, it should be even cooler with max. temperature of 16*C, cloudy and occasional light rain. Zilina has finished its last practice and right now its Dinamo on the field. Lets hope that weatherman is wrong this time. As already zaza wrote there will be no TV coverage of the match. Fans all over Slovakia are upset. I am sure that this sentiment is shared in Romania. Is it true that Slovak TV had asked $100.000 for the broadcast from TVR? If so then it iis a real shame if not a scandal, because Slovak TV should broadcast the game on national TV irregardless of interest from Romania or anybody else. STV has indeed sent a note to MSK that " the game would not be interesting for a broadcast"! This would never happen, had a Bratislava team participated in the CL. As you may know, Slovan Bratislava, the 'flagship" team of Slovakia has been relegated to II. division and the fat asses sitting in Slovak TV headquarters in Bratislava cannot accept the reality. Anyway, let's hope for a good game!

It's not Dinamo who must be atractive for STV, they have to do that for slovak champions and for their fans. The same for our public tv (TVR) which ignore milions of Dinamo fans. Both are stupid comunist channels.

rew, you have hit the nail right on the head! I did say, however, that STV should broadcast the game in Slovakia when I wrote: "Slovak TV should broadcast the game on national TV irregardless of interest from Romania or anybody else".
They could have done it on reciprocal basis, instead there will be indeed millions of disgruntled fans.
